Symphonic and Concert Bands Audition Material 2019-20

Students are highly encouraged to complete a brief audition. Those students wishing to audition for the advanced ensemble must prepare all three excerpts. Those content with being in the intermediate level concert band must only prepare the first two excerpts. Students who audition but do not receive a spot for Symphonic Band will be placed in a higher chair position in Concert Band. Those students who do not audition can still register for Concert Band.

Auditions will take place in February and March. We will plan with the Middle School Band Directors to have auditions at their schools. Any other students can contact me directly to schedule their audition.  Current high school students will have a sign up on the board in the band room.

Results will be posted in the Heritage band room and sent to Middle School Directors as soon as possible after the final auditions.

Note: Scales are not in concert pitch. Play one major scale and the chromatic scale. Play scales tongued, ascending and descending by memory. Use the following rhythmic pattern with a maximum metronome marking of quarter note = 120:

In addition to the material below, students will be required to play a short sight-reading exercise. Etudes are downloadable pdf files; an audio file in Sibelius® Sounds format is also provided.
